The Caribbean and North America Council for Mission (CANACOM) is celebrating 40 years of service and mission under the theme, “Trusting God’s Faithful, Ongoing Preservation of All Creation.”
Established in 1986, CANACOM has spent four decades strengthening mission partnerships, encouraging Christian witness, and supporting the Church’s response to the needs of communities throughout the Caribbean and North America. This milestone provides an opportunity to celebrate the journey while looking ahead to the Church’s continuing responsibility to care for God’s creation.
As part of the 40th-anniversary celebrations, CANACOM will host a Faith & Climate Conference on:
Saturday, September 12, 2026
9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
PCTT’s Synod Office Auditorium
Paradise Hill, San Fernando, Trinidad and Tobago
The conference will provide an important space for conversation, learning and reflection on the relationship between faith, climate change and Christian responsibility for creation.
Climate change continues to affect communities across the Caribbean, with implications for food security, livelihoods, health, housing and the environment. For people of faith, responding to these challenges is not simply an environmental concern—it is also part of our calling to care for our neighbours and responsibly steward God’s creation.
The conference is therefore an opportunity for participants to consider how churches and communities can become more engaged in practical and meaningful responses to the climate crisis.
Registration is free, and a complimentary lunch will be provided.
For more information, participants may contact 1-868-652-4829 or 1-868-653-4788.
The celebrations will continue on Sunday, September 13, 2026, with a special 40th-anniversary worship service.
Time: 4:00 p.m.
Venue: St Ann’s Church of Scotland
Corner of Oxford and Charlotte Streets
Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago
The worship service will provide an opportunity for CANACOM members, partners, churches and supporters to gather in thanksgiving for four decades of mission and ministry.
It will also be a time to look toward the future with renewed commitment to Christian mission, partnership, justice, peace and the care of creation.
For additional information about the worship service, contact 1-868-222-8374.
CANACOM’s 40th anniversary is more than a celebration of an important milestone. It is a reminder of what can be accomplished when churches and communities work together in faith and mission.
From the Caribbean to North America, the council represents a continuing commitment to collaboration, service and Christian witness. The anniversary invites participants to remember the work of those who helped shape CANACOM while encouraging a new generation to take up the responsibility of serving God and humanity.
The anniversary theme, “Trusting God’s Faithful, Ongoing Preservation of All Creation,” speaks to both gratitude and responsibility. As the world faces increasingly complex environmental and social challenges, the Church is called to be a faithful presence—bringing hope, compassion and practical action to communities.
As CANACOM marks 40 years, the celebrations point toward the next chapter of its mission. Faith communities have an important role to play in promoting environmental stewardship, strengthening communities and advocating for a more just and sustainable world.
The Faith & Climate Conference and 40th-anniversary Worship Service offer two opportunities to come together—to learn, worship, celebrate and recommit ourselves to God’s mission.
CANACOM invites churches, mission partners, community members and all persons interested in faith and creation care to participate in this significant 40th-anniversary celebration.
