Celebrations and Activities for the period May 2023 – March 2024
The Presbyterian Church of Trinidad and Tobago (The PCTT) after celebrating its 155th
Anniversary in January of 2023, hosted its installation of our new Moderator The Right Reverend
Daniel Chance in May (28th,2023) after his appointment at the 63rd Annual General Meeting of
Synod of the PCTT. The Rt. Rev. Chance is the 15th Moderator of Synod and will serve for the next
2 years (April 2023 – April 2025). As the PCTT commenced their Synodical Term for 2023 – 2025
many changes in leadership and representation for the various standing Boards and Committees
of The PCTT was observed.
On Friday 3rd February 2023, St. Andrew’s Theological College celebrated its rich history at its
131st Anniversary Service at the College’s Chapel. Our esteemed Reverend Adrian D.E.
Sieunarine and the Principal of S.A.T.C. led in worship. Both past and current, members of Synod,
members of the Board, joined in worship, thanking God for his faithfulness and love. We
continue to pray for the college, so that it may continue its mission to inspire and fulfil the call to
spiritual enlightenment, empowerment, engagement and edification.
The Presbyterian Church of Trinidad and Tobago (PCTT) congratulated Her Excellency Christine
Carla Kangaloo on her appointment as the 7th President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago.
Becoming the second female President certainly is a milestone for women and speaks to the
fortitude and competence of the women of this twin-island state. The PCTT is extremely proud
and delighted especially since Her Excellency received her foundation at one of our primary
schools, the Grant Memorial Presbyterian Primary School and is also a member of the
Susamachar Presbyterian Church.
At the 155th Anniversary Service of the PCTT in January of this year 2023 but even before that,
there was a listed project of the 150th Anniversary Committee back in 2017 under the then
Moderator The Rt. Rev. Annabell Lalla-Ramkelawan which continued in earnest by Rev. Joy Abdul-
Mohan and completed under The Rt. Rev. Daniel Chance. On December 8th, 2023 we were able
to collectively celebrate the start of the distribution and sale of an important publication in the
life of the Church – the Presbyterian Church of Trinidad and Tobago – “An Odyssey of Faith”. As
we would recall, this book was officially launched at the St. Andrew’s Theological Chapel (SATC).
In a powerful sermon commemorating the 156th anniversary of the Presbyterian Church in
Trinidad and Tobago on January 6th 2024, Reverend Daniel Teelucksingh addressed both the rich
history and the pressing challenges facing the church and society. Reverend Teelucksingh who is
a retired Minister of The PCTT and former independent Minister in the parliament of Trinidad &
Tobago delivered a message acknowledging the church’s historical achievements, he called for a
renewal of purpose, emphasizing the need to break away from past successes and move forward
with a clear vision.
The sermon reflected on the criticisms faced by the church but highlighted its resilience over the
2
years. The challenges confronting the church, including declining attendance and a lukewarm
spirit, were candidly addressed. A call for recommitment and a renewal of faith was emphasized,
framing the church’s mission as an ongoing responsibility beyond celebrating past achievements.
The final message emphasized the church’s role as a beacon of light and salt in the world,
encouraging active participation from all members to contribute to societal well-being and
spiritual renewal.
In conclusion, the sermon served as a poignant call to action, urging the Presbyterian Church to
not only reflect on its past but to actively engage with the challenges of the present by fostering
renewal and addressing societal issues.
